This is brilliant.
Thought Leo Griffith as he streaked down a grassy plane. The top half of his Shihakushô flapping in the wind, almost falling off him entirely. It was his early morning run, well what Leo thinks is early morning is actually midday, but that's beside the point. This run was a good one. The sun was brightly shining down, however because Leo was running he actually felt quite cool. There were no farmers tending to their fields that Leo had to dodge, though they did make a good obstacle course, the vice captain actually quite liked weaving through and around them. However on that day he just felt like a straight run. It was a perfect day, and Leo had a massive childlike grin on his face. He looked to his left and was greeted by the glory of the soul society, the seireitei seemed to be bursting with life, the senkaimon was open and he could see several small black dots going to and fro. In fact, he could see small black dots everywhere, even on sogyouku hill. Leo started to laugh, everyone was as busy as he thought.
Leo was feeling particularly lucky today, the run was perfect, the view was perfect. But even perfection can get boring. Leo looked down to runkongai, trying to find a way to spice up his run slightly. Then it hit him, a brilliant idea that was sure to make things more interesting. Leo turned and ran towards the district, when he reached he immediately jumped, landing on a roof. But he didn't stop, he continued to run across various roofs at breakneck speed, when he saw an opening in the crowded streets he jumped down. And started to run through the fray, running around and dodging the citizens before they knew he was even there, they would realise what was happening about three seconds after he passed them. By that time he would be long gone. Leo neared a junction and turned right into an larger and more crowded street. Leo chuckled, this was going to be a challenge. He accelerated, going faster than before and narrowly dodging a group of shoppers only to met with another group. He just managed to slide through them. But he was met by another group. Leo knew he couldn't handle it, he was loosing speed and soon they would be able to see what squad he was from. He quickly jumped too a roof, however he landed badly, causing him to stop. There was a crowd of onlookers, Leo had to quickly accelerate to as fast as he could go to escape, even then he still thought someone might try and follow him. He checked behind him, everyone was on there way. Leo let out a sigh and turned his head away. But the roof had gone, Leo let out a shout of " Shit!" before falling a short distance onto the rocky ground. He had reached the end of the district. Leo gave a quick check to his arms and legs and found that all was well, apart from one thing. His left knee had been cut slightly by the rough gravel. just a scratch he thought. Leo sat back, and watched the clouds roll by.

Shade’s foot would appear in front of Leo just as he checked his left knee and the vice-captain’s form would be completely covered by an ominous shadow. If he looked up he would see Shade’s pitch-black silhouette with the sun behind it. His features were hidden by the glare of the sun as he looked down at his fellow vice-captain. “You would dare disturb the serenity of Soul Society while bearing the rank of a vice-captain?” said the soul reaper as his zanpakutou bled steadily at his side, “Such behavior is unbefitting of one who claims the position of lieutenant, such as yourself...” Shade obviously did not approve of Leo’s haphazard, dangerous behavior.
“Shade... I smell blood...” whispered the lieutenant’s zanpakutou to him as he took notice of Leo’s bleeding wound, “Blood, Shade!!! BLOOD!!! FEED ME RIGHT NOW!!!” Shade glanced at the other vice-captain’s knee and noticed his blood forming drips on the shallow scrape. No wonder his zanpakutou had been sent into a frenzy. The smell of blood triggered Buraindo Kira’s animalistic instincts and tantalized his insatiable thirst. “You’ll receive your payment...” thought the shinigami, reassuring his blade in an attempt to keep it quiet. But such efforts were wasted on the greedy, gluttonous zanpakutou spirit. “YOU FUCKING FEED ME RIGHT NOW YOU INSOLENT LITTLE PRICK OR I’LL NEVER ALLOW YOU TO CALL UPON SHIKAI AGAIN!!!” screeched the sword, sounding incredibly pissed off.
The soul reaper knew an empty threat when he heard one, but knew that it was in his best interest to keep his zanpakutou spirit appeased. “Fight me...” he finally whispered to Leo who was still on the ground, “Come at me with the intent to kill me... Use every ability you possess... expend every ounce of your power... Release your sword and fight me...” The lieutenant’s words came suddenly, but keeping in mind what Leo had just done, it was not a surprise that Shade was a tad angry at how Leo had been acting. Taking all this into account, the lieutenant would likely assume that he’d offended Shade’s honor in some way and was now paying for it.

Leo was checking his knee when everything seemed to get darker. What the...oh Leo thought as he looked upwards. A large figure was looming over him, with the sun directly behind him, the figure seemed strangely evil. stop being an idiot Leo, this man is a member of the soul society. He can't be evil. he noted. Don't be so certain of yourself, boy. His zanpaktou remarked. You of all people should know the world is not in black and white. Once again you disappoint me. Leo rolled his eyes, this happened all the time. The mysterious figure spoke up "You would dare disturb the serenity of Soul Society while bearing the rank of a vice-captain? Such behavior is unbefitting of one who claims the position of lieutenant, such as yourself..."" "oh." Leo remarked "You're one of those types of people." The lieutenant wasn't a massive fan of rules and regulations, as far as he was concerned they were just restrictions.
Leo sighed , This guy's going to report me to some sort of authority now. I bet he's going to use some sort of.. "Fight me.." If anyone could have seen the young vice captain's eyes, they would have noticed they were wide and open. Leo was caught of gaurd by this statement, however his fringe ensured that Shade would not be able to see any signs of surprise. Shade continued, "Come at me with the intent to kill me... Use every ability you possess... expend every ounce of your power... Release your sword and fight me..." Shade had thrown down the gauntlet. As he began to grasp what had just happened his face twisted into a malicious smile. "Before I kill you..." Leo started whilst slowly standing up. "Thanks"
Leo immediately unsheathed his sword with amazing speed and started to attack. First he ducked and swung upwards, aiming to slice shade's torso, then without stopping he went on to attack by swinging his sword left and right whilst ducking and occasionally jumping, with no actual target. However if shade did nothing to block them then they would definitely hit. Leo was not going by any pattern, he just wildly sliced and occasionally stabbed. The blood hungary Leo pushed his opponent back, giving them no space to launch any kidou or unsheathe their sword. That was something Leo did not want. Something he didn't need was any insane powers, not only that but Leo himself wanted to avoid releasing. That would take the fun out of everything

Shade didn’t know what Leo meant when he remarked on what kind of person Shade was, but he decided that it didn’t matter and that his mind was better put to getting this other lieutenant to fight him. The challenge had been stated and it was now up to Leo whether or not things preceded further. A lieutenant was not supposed to be behaving the way Leo had, so Shade felt fully justified in initiating the challenge. The vice-captain noticed Leo’s mouth twist up into a smile before he stood up. What did such a curvature of the mouth mean? Shade didn’t understand facial expressions at all and would have preferred to live in a world without such trivialities. “Before I kill you... thanks,” said the lieutenant as he got up slowly. Now he was expressing appreciation for something? Shade didn’t quite understand but chose to simply keep his mouth closed and quietly observe his opponent who seemed bent on killing him.
It turned out to be a good decision not to take his eyes off Leo, because as soon as he’d gotten up his zanpakutou was unsheathed. Leo quickly came at Shade, delivering a vertical swing that was directed at the soul reaper’s torso. The lieutenant simply held his zanpakutou horizontal and stopped Leo’s sword in its tracks as the blades met. Leo wasn’t done there though. A barrage of slices crashed against the shinigami’s defense fruitlessly as Shade’s gaze continued to beat down on Leo like a torrent of rain. “Is that all?” muttered the lieutenant as he dealt with each of Leo’s swings and stabs. This particular vice-captain was the youngest seated officer in Soul Society and it just so happened he was one of the strongest as well. It was no secret that Shade was a prodigy and possessed skill that was unmatched by any of his peers. There was simply no way that things would be as easy for Leo as he expected. He didn’t have any idea just what he was dealing with.
Shade, on the other hand, was able to gauge the other lieutenant’s skill from that one exchange. He could tell that Leo was going about this very amateurishly and that there was no way he’d win in a battle of swordsmanship. But most importantly, Shade could feel that he was stronger than Leo and that they possessed around the same speed. This was certainly a desirable situation for the shinigami to be in. Then the lieutenant felt it. With his acute energy sensory Shade noticed this shinigami’s spiritual pressure. It was massive and completely dwarfed his own. Taking this into account, the soul reaper knew that cutting him would be a dire mistake, for not only would Buraindo Kira not pierce his flesh at all, Shade would receive damage to his hands. This affect could be ignored, however, by simply releasing. However, Shade did not want to needlessly reveal his blade’s abilities and was confident in his ability to outmaneuver this particular individual and beat him solely with blunt force.
With a swift movement Shade dropped to the ground, paying mind to any attacks that may yet be sent his way from Leo, and preformed a quick leg sweep in hopes of sending Leo plummeting to the ground. One of two things would probably happen. Either the sweep would go off without a hitch and Leo would be sent falling to the ground, or Leo would jump over Shade's leg. The lieutenant was prepared for this second scenario as well and he would strike quickly if things took such a turn, for when one jumps into the air, they have no control over their body's position until they land.
