Participants: Raygin Kawada, Katrina Kawada World: Soul Society Thread Setting: Death Enabled Rating: R Location:
A outdoor sparing area for the Kawada family. The field has grass, shrubbery, and some trees for a more outdoorsy feel.
Special Conditions:
None
Circumstances:
Katrina wishes to spare with Raygin for two reasons. One, to get stronger. Two, to see if he is truly deserving of the Kawada name. Raygin is doing this just to be nice as well as to interact with one of his new siblings.
What a nice day it was. The sun was out the sky was blue and the air was warm. All of that combined with just pure relaxation made today the perfect nap day. There might be a few who would take up that offer, but right now Raygin couldn’t do that. The male Shinigami was lying upon his back in the middle of the Kawada training field just staring up at the sky. The field was quiet, as was Raygin, at least until a small gust of wind caused the foliage to rustle. Ray blinked to keep his eyes from drying out before bringing his arms back and resting them under his head. The normally rambunctious Shinigami was actually acting his age for once. No chibi, no pranks, no weird voices or behaviors, no trying to annoy the higher ranking Shinigami. None of that. He just laid there and thought. Why was he even out here? A female from his adopted family, Katrina, had requested Ray to spare with her. He was hesitant at first for two reasons. One, training with Ray typically got out of hand. Second, Ray considered himself unfit for practice since he believed himself to be a weak Shinigami. But he had finally agreed to train with Katrina despite his hesitation.
I wonder if there really is a way…[/i] Ray thought to himself as his eyes lid closed part way. Non-existent to everyone else, a large white wolf lay in the grass above Rays head. He was curled up in a ball like most canines do when they rest. One of his ears flicked in response to Raygins thought. ”There is always a way. I am against this course of actions you know.”[/i] the Wolf responded mentally along with a sigh. I know Zero…I know… Ray took a deep, long breath and slowly exhaled to expel the thoughts from his mind. He wondered when Katrina would get here. Actually, Ray knew next to nothing about Katrina. In fact, Ray knew little about the Kawada. He had hastily joined them when Shade offered when he caught Ray using a technique similar to one the family used. Raygin WAS grateful to Shade for giving him room and board, and even assisting him with his training. But aside from that Ray never gave much interest in the rest of his adopted family. He had requested a small room away from the major portion of the house. Maybe Ray was shy about meeting them? The only family member Ray ever interacted with was Shade.
The Shinigami arced his back to stretch it as he sat up and shook his head. He ran his hands through his black hair to get some of the grass out of it. ”It sure is a nice day.” he said with a smile as he went back to staring at the sky. Almost instantly Ray went back to lying down, which caused Zero to open one of his eyes. ”You’re lazy you know that?”And your furry Ray chuckled and looked up at his spirit. The wolf ignored him and resumed his nap. Ray smiled and rested his head on his arms again and closed his eyes. He would be able to tell when Katrina got here thanks to his Energy Sensing abilities. So why not just rest his eyes and relax while he waited?
"... tch." The slight noise of disapproval would sound against the courtyard, easily carrying to the ears of the shinigami present. Out of the shadows appeared one whom Ray should know; Katrina Kawada, his adopted cousin. A golden haori, emblazoned with the Kawada Phoenix, glistened slightly over her blindingly white academy uniform. The uniform was different from most; it was form-fitting, missing it's shoulders. It spread across her arms into a fingerless glove. The outfit, combined with the graceful sway she walked with, would catch the attention of any males present.
Two swords were on her waist, beautiful, glistening Uchigatana, a bright golden; however, unbeknownst to anybody else, these were special weapons; a single touch could turn them black, as black as the darkest night. But Ray wouldn't know this. Katrina approached him with a look of extreme disapproval on her face. ".. how dare he besmirch the name of the Kawada?" Her sapphire eyes narrowed in anger, her upper lip curling in disgust.
A delicate, covered hand landed on the hilt of her blade, curling around the wooden hilt to withdraw the gleaming blade. "Ray 'Kawada'." She said her family dripping with sarcasm, as if she found it humorous that he has claimed the name. "I see you have taken advantage of our families hospitality again." She made no attempt at polite conversation; every word practically vibrated with contempt. It was obvious Katrina had nothing but disgust for this shinigami.
Then, the Academy Student pointed the blade down at Ray. "Fight me." She said coldly. "Prove your place in the Kawada. Prove you are worthy of the name. Prove you are more than trash. She took a quick step back, cold, merciless eyes awaiting his answer. Her fingers twitched in anticipation. She knew he would accept; she impuned on his honor. No man worth anything would take that from a mere Academy Student especially not a third seat whom, if the rumors were true, had attained Bankai.
Raygin opened his eyes when he felt the reiatsu of Katrina. She may be good at hiding her body but she would have had to have suppressed her reiatsu for her to properly sneak up on Ray. The males ears twitched a little when he heard Katrina make a sound then turned his head back to get a glimpse of her. Katrina was pretty, very very pretty. But it was the kind of pretty that would cause people to look away. It was far to…familiar, like looking at a sister or a childhood friend. Her hair was as dark as Sithis as well as long.
Unfortunately, Katrina had a huge problem that even Ray knew about. She was a bit of a bit-snob. She was just a grade a jerk. Ray never really took offense to it, mostly because of his personal alienation from the rest of the family so he could train on his own and not get in the way. Ray had met Katrina a few times and needless to say he had not left a good impression on her. Maybe she didn’t like his overly joyful and optimistic personality? Maybe it was because he had spilt his food on her one time? Maybe it was because he had bugged her in his Chibi form. But without a doubt, Ray knew Katrina loathed him.
”My friends call me Ray. You, call me Raygin.” Rays tone changed almost instantly. It was…not as warm as it usually was. The feelings Katrina had for Ray was mutual on both ends. Ray did not like Katrina very much for her personality. Now, Raygin would never go out of his way to harm or humiliate her but his dislike of associating with her was sorta obvious. ”I wouldn’t be taking a nap if someone had shown up on time.” Ray brought his legs up into the air, curved them, then hopped up onto his feet. He bent down and picked his Zanpakuto up from the ground and held it in his left hand.
Ray looked at the woman with a false look of content. When he heard Katrina demand he stared at her hard for a few seconds before he began to chuckle. ”Fighting you wouldn’t prove anything Katrina. You’re a student at the academy. I am here to help you practice, not whip you like the school yard bully. So then, lets dance young miss.” He said with a smile at the girl. Katrina would have to push a lot harder if she wanted to fiddle with Rays button, but Ray would be able to push Katrinas much easier.
Anger burned in the sapphire eyes of the Gilded Shadow as his words burned straight into her. "You dare-" She stopped mid sentence, a wicked smirk growing on her lips. "You are right, of course, Ray." Her voice dripped with contempt in an attempt to provoke him. "I am only an Academy Student, after all." And her eyes lit up. "That is why it will be terrible if I defeat you." A movement of her arm, and a black knife - missing both hilt and guard - slipped through the long sleeves of her Haori and appeared in her hand. And with a flick of her wrist, she threw it.
Not directly at him, however. It would fling, with unerring accuracy, towards the right of Ray's face. As he would prepare to dodge, or block it, she mentally cast a Kido; Byakurai. A single finger pointed towards Ray as it flew towards him. This would most likely surprised Raygin, simply on the premise that she was an Academy Student; an Academy Student being able to mentally cast any spell would be rather rare. A smirk appeared on Katrina face, her hands reaching down to unsheath her blades.
And then she ran, blades streaming out behind her. Of course, Ray would easily be able to discern her move; he was, after all, four times faster than her, with high enough senses to discern her athletic movement. Her long black hair streamed out from behind her. She spun, and her Haori spun with her, shielding her lower body from view. Her left hand rose up with the intent to slice into his ear; at the same time, she let the momentum carry her right arm into a stab towards his stomach.
A smile spread across Rays face as he got the exact response from Katrina he had hoped to get. If Katrina was this easy to mess with then who knows what level of anger he could push her to. Hell, maybe he could make her snap and she would leave then Ray could go back to enjoying his down time. Raygin wasn’t doing it to be malicious, it was just how he is. He was a clown, a goof, a kid in an adult body, this was just fun to him. And he planned to have quite a bit of fun messing with his nephew…cousin…sister….whatever it was that Katrina was to him.
Well, the fight had now begun. Katrina performed the opening move by doing something rather unexpected; throwing a hidden blade. The knife made Ray blink in surprise as he moved his head to left to dodge the projectile. It was only after it flew by his face did he come to realize it was meant to miss, but even then he had to say ”Where are you aiming?”. But that didn’t mean Ray didn’t know what was coming. The Shinigami Katrina was facing had quite the talent in sensing energy so he was able to detect the reiatsu gathering in her hand. Ray didn’t know what Kido was being activated but he knew something was coming, probably a Hado.
And Ray was right! Katrina, impressively, had perfectly cast a Byakurai mentally. The Kido flew right towards Ray who stood there with that goofy smile on his face. The third seat lifted his left hand and then using that amazing speed of his, plus his overwhelming reiatsu, literally backhanded Katrinas byakurai away into the air. The act left the top of his hand burned a little making him shake his hand some.
Wow…she completely cast that mentally. She…is pretty impressive.[/color] Ray thought as he looked at the now charging Katrina. Without a moment to lose Ray rushed towards Katrina, moving at least twice as fast as she did. Katrina was going in for a spin so she could perform a dual slash, but Ray decided to move right to her exposed backside before she could even get her swords all the way out, and give her a friendly push. He smiled as he hopped away from her and let out a laugh. ”Is that it? I thought the pure blooded Kawadas were supposed to be the Gotei 13s greatest warriors. You arnt really living up that claim right now Katrina.” Ray said with a shrug. He stood twenty three feet away from her and just smiled at her. Honestly though, he was still impressed by the fact she could mentally cast a Kido at her level.
She’s better than I was when I was at her level….actually almost everyone was. I wanna see if I can push her to show me something even better. I got a feeling this girl will turn out to be something special when she rises in power. Katrina had managed to spark Rays curiosity. He wanted to see if he could push Katrina into unveiling some more of her skills, despite the fact it could make Katrina an enemy of Rays forever. ”Come on Katrina, show me what you got otherwise I might just take a nap again.”
Her blood boiled! How dare he touch her father's Haori! Not even Shade-senpai, the head of her clan, touched this Haori. She froze in place after he pushed her, not daring to move, not daring to even blink, in case that action was the one that pushed her over the edge. She took deep breaths through clenched teeth, trying in vain to calm her blood. Despite her rage, she was able to calm enough to speak. "... you, Ray Kawada, are a cruel man. You taunt and prod about the weaknesses of other's while avoiding to confront your own. You use humor as a wallpaper for the true backpaper of your life, which is failure. My weakness is due to inexperience; yours is due to inability."
She spun around to face him, and etched in the sharp, pixie-like face of the Soul Reaper was the cruelty of the Kawada. Her blade was gripped in her hand with such force, her knuckles were turning white. "You think your actions have no consequences? Your pranks, your mischief, your misguided attempts at humor ... it has no place here. We are a military; we fight. That is what we do. We fight, and help those that fight. Even those at Squad 4 has a purpose. What do you do? You are nothing more than something more to get slaughtered by our enemies. You do not deserve the honors you have been given."
Her words were not said in a cruel way; rather, they were said in a cool and monotonous tone, as if stating facts. But underlying the monotony was anger, and rage, and violence, threatening to boil into her every action. If this particular volcano erupted, Ray will experience the wrath of a woman angered. Cold, hard blue eyes stared into brown as she awaited his reaction. At it's core, this was not a fight of melee and magic; this was a battle of pure blooded vs. adopted, of opposite wills, of stoic and humorous, and more importantly, of ideas.
Raygins red eyes widened a bit as the fruits of labor began to grow. He was pushing Katrina over the edge, actually Ray felt she might be at the breaking point. Perhaps Raygin was taking his taunting to far. Actually, he was. Then and there Raygin decided to stop taunting her. What Katrina said was wrong. Raygin was not a cruel man. Raygin raised a hand to speak but Katrina would not stop talking. She continued to go on and on about how Raygin himself was a failure and how he did nothing.
Raygin gaze her a bored look as he spun his head around and waited for her to finish her rant. When she finished Raygin raised a eyebrow at her. "You done?" He waited a moment to see if she was done talking before he clapped his hands together. "Lets break down everything you just said. 'Kay?" He said as he smiled at her. "Taunting your weakness? Nah, I am tickling your pride so you can show me how good you are. As to confronting my own weakness...Katrina I know very well my weakness. Shade-sama knows it, that guy named Kubi knows it, Kaen knows it, Hokori Kuchiki knows it, Kyousei whats-his-face knows it. My weakness is evident amongst all my friends and most deeply myself." Raygin said as he let out a sigh.
He scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I am a failure. My hearts way to weak to kill people without good reason. I can't just go HEY ARRANCAR DIE DIE DIE." Ray made stab motions. Rays face then changed from his goofy face to something like a sad stare at Katrina. He raised a finger to her and began to remove the top of his outfit. He moved the white under shirt and showed Katrina his chest. He then pointed at what she was supposed to look at it. A small white scar directly over his heart. It wasn't even that big, only about the length of a katana or a kitchen knife.
"Something you may not know about me Katrina. When I was still alive I was murdered at...was it sixteen....when I was sixteen. I didn't get to live my life. I had so many decades taken away from me, my friends my parents as well as the love of my life. Who knows how I would have turned out if I where still alive. I saw other people die around me in my time as a ghost and in the Rukongai. Something about my death and those deaths really scrambled my emotions and I can't bear the thought of taking away someones right to live their life. If that makes me weak then so be it, I'm weak. But I can at least say with pride I am still human. " Raygin said as he began to put his clothes on. "Maybe I don't deserve the things I've gotten from this family, but Shade-sama thought that I was good enough to join it....or was it because I happened to be making a technique similar to one of the Kawadas..." Ray suddenly resumed his goofy attitude as he touched his chin in thought.
"Oh sorry you didn't ask for my life story. I wont mess with you anymore so let's just train alright." Ray said with a smile as he raised his Zanpakuto. His red eyes looked into Katrinas blue and sent a message to her. Ray was done goofing off. Raygin suddenly vanished with the use of a Shunpo and appeared beside Katrina and swung his Zanpakuto at her right arm. He had lowered his speed tremendously so that Katrina would be able to react to it and hopefully be able to avoid or parry his attack. But, if Katrina did block or parry and did not move away from Raygin she would suddenly find herself blown backwards through the air. Raygin had casted Hado #1 Sho on her, though it was seriously weakened. He used it on a level where it would not have hurt Katrina, nor have flung her so far back and through a wall. Nah, just a little force push to get her going.
Remaining Reiatsu: 2925 / 3000 -50 for Shunpo -25 for Sho if it hits
