Raion’s attacks were incredibly effective, if Kazuko’s reactions were any indication. The tidal wave that ripped across the courtyard nearly washed the man away despite the pillar he summoned up from the ground, further proving his Zanpaktou’s ability to be tied to altering the earth itself. It required his sword to be in the ground, however, and Raion noted that as he watched his Vice Captain jump to the roof, his earthwork platform crumbling the instant that Kazuko’s Zanpaktou was removed from it. It seemed that as long as the sword could be removed from whatever earth it was a part of, then the Zanpaktou would be no threat. There was nothing to say this applied to only the solid ground and soil, however; as many buildings used stone-based materials, they were a potential weapon for Kazuko’s abilities as well.
Two Shakkahō suddenly were launched, but they were easy for Raion to handle. The first was knocked aside using the lion’s sword itself to blast the projectile into the wall beneath Kazuko, while the second was a direct hit due to the Captain’s low reflexes during his recovery of the first block. The red fireball slammed into his shoulder and exploded with a fair amount of concussive force, causing the lion to stagger, but Raion managed to prevent any severe burns by turning his fall into a roll that smothered the burning that was beginning on his shoulder. Though the difference in their Reiatsu Strength made it so that Raion could shrug off the hit with minimal damage, his fur was still very flammable, and he wasn’t fond of people attempting to set it on fire.
“Is that all, ki—er… what’s that?” A burst of light suddenly came from the terrace that Kazuko had been standing on; more specifically, it was a burst of lightning. Reflex kicked in immediately before Raion’s thoughts could catch up to it, and his Zanpaktou came up to intercept the Kido that came his way. After an accident involving lightning that had left him hospitalized for a week without sake, the lion had learned to either run or block such attacks that came his way. Fortunately, his Zanpaktou was perfectly suited for such an attempt, though it wouldn’t seem like it at first; Kazuko’s spell arced directly towards the blade, pulled towards it as if by a magnet. It struck suddenly, with vicious fury.
Raion staggered again from the blow, though his strength allowed him to keep upright despite the powerful spell slamming into the blade of his sword. It didn’t go any further than the wave-edge, however; the hilt and guard of the Captain’s Zanpaktou were both made of special metals that were a ground for electricity, preventing it from flowing to the lion’s hand. Raion’s attacks were liquid-based, and though it was a flammable liquid, it also conducted electricity quite nicely, and as a result his Zanpaktou was meant to neutralize one of its own glaring weaknesses. It was why the lion, with his immense spiritual power and his formidable physical strength, was able to take on powerful lightning-based abilities and nullify them without any worries aside from their impact force.
This is goin’ on a bit long… need t’ wrap this up so I can get m’sake… Raion’s grip suddenly tightened on his electrified sword, and he removed one hand from its grip to gesture to the enormous pool of burning sake that filled the courtyard. Raising his paw, the Captain caused the whole mass to lift up in an enormous burning serpent of liquid fire, towering over the barracks and causing quite the scene. The gigantic being used the converted sake of an enormous tidal wave to make up its form, and as a result was much larger than the serpent that he had conjured from his sake jug; this one was far more deadly too, as blue flames licked across its surface.
“An’ that’s game, kiddo.”
With an imperious sweep of his arm, Raion sent the serpent to surge forward towards Kazuko, maw agape as it wrapped around him, like swallowing him whole. It was not a slow technique by far, due to the Captain’s immense spiritual strength, and if the Vice Captain didn’t move almost immediately, he’d find himself consumed in the fiery mass. Raion was holding enough of his power back that it wouldn’t kill the man, but it would severely burn him and likely leave him unconscious from over-inebriation until he could be taken to Squad Four’s barracks to be treated for both the burns and the alcohol poisoning. The lion knew the extent of his own powers, and even if it was hard to hold back while drunk, he knew how far he could go without any permanent damage.
“Yer still a lil’ dull around the edges, kiddo, but we’ll getcha into fighting shape. You’ll do for a Vice Captain for now, I suppose.”
