Light and Dark (Raygin vs Shiki, NDE)

Immediately after the treacherous fight against Kubi, Shiki finally made it back to the soul society. This is when he came across new technology that came out of the research and development area. Curious about this new "virtual reality advanced program, beta version", Shiki decided to try this new technology out since he didn't think the soul society would have something this advanced. Shiki signed a few contracts and was taught the basic controls by the system administrator.

Using their new spiritual technology, he was transported into this virtual reality training area for a test run. After logging on to the main server inside the virtual training area, Shiki moved around and tried a few flips to test out this place. The simulation was pretty excellent and well programmed. The gravity was measured to be near perfect and there was almost no glitches in any of the physics. There was even an HP bar in the corner of his vision, although this HP bar was only a fancy side effect. He opened the menu and looked at his status menu:

What the fuck is this? It has everything about me in terms of numbers! Shiki thought as he scrolled through his list of skills and techniques, I wonder how the damage system works? Shiki was extremely curious so he flipped out his knife and stabbed himself in the hand. Shiki's eyes were in shock as he watched his HP bar drop a few points, It hurts! They even have a pain simulation and bleeding simulation nearly the same as the real world. This is truly advanced.

The administrator then intervened and healed his wound, telling him to try not to get himself killed in this virtual world. They explained that death in this world has a risk of causing mental trauma since the respawning system are not perfect. Although this program effectively disables death, the death may leave a major impact on the person's mind and personality. Shiki told them that he would be fine since he was born a human and had already experienced death once. The administrator still advised Shiki to be careful since he was a member of the Gotei 13.

Shiki changed the scenery to a breakdance cipher and began performing some top rock and battle rock to the beat. Practicing his breakdancing, he immediately went into a coin drop and started doing continuous windmills. Although, I, the narrator, have to admit that his windmills were not completely perfect but they can at least pass as visually impressive. They aren't the smoothest but Shiki is certainly getting there. With his knowledge of martial arts and momentum, he learned them pretty quick but his muscles are still not used to it yet.

After screwing around for a few hours, the administrator suddenly took control over the program and stopped the music, instantly changing the scenery to a New York City environment. Shiki stood on the top of the building, wear virtual sunglasses and black jacket that he got from the virtual outfitters. The administrator informed him that the maintenance was completely and another person would arriving. This person was going to be logging in shortly after they perform a few minutes of preparation.

Shiki checked the account information of the new ID signing in. It was a Vice Captain of Squad 3. Another vice captain, huh...? HA! You have already crushed the vice captain of squad 2! I'm starting to think that this soul society is filled with weaklings! Pride laughed as he made a mockery of the Gotei 13. That was just luck, Pride. This one will be different. In terms of spiritual power, these guys are not to be underestimated. Remember, Kyomei, the one we couldn't cut?

Fuck, that shit! That guy wasn't even a fifth seat and you lost miserably! Pride sneered, However, it's different now. We actually have a shinigami's soul weapon now. If you lose this fight, it must mean that you fucked up badly! HAHAHAHA! Isn't that right, Shiki? This battle was completely unexpected and Shiki knew that he wasn't prepared. He didn't have any firearms or anything to supplement and use to his advantage. He just flipped out his knife and awaited for his opponent to arrive. Shiki stood still, meditating with self-hypnosis and channeling his spiritual energy, as he held the knife in a fillapino grip.

"Hiya! I take it you’re my opponent considering I can’t find a single other person in this place. I feel like I have seen you before though, have we met? Well, if we did I can’t remember so I will redo or begin introductions. Names Raygin Sakubara, Vice Captain of Squad 3 and it is a pleasure to meet you whats-your-face. Second person attacks first, just like in that childrens card game the Egyptians played.”

Huh...? Shiki narrowed his eyes as he recognized the face but not the body. At first glance, he looked very similar to that annoying chibi guy from that ramen shop earlier. Although he failed to tell that these two were the same people, this just irritated him even more. Plus, his disrespect toward Shiki just bothered him even more. He had just finished a difficult fight with Kubi and now had to face another vice captain. What a bother. Two flipping vice captain fights in one day. This has got to be the most annoying day in his life.

Although death can be avoided in this virtual reality, it did have a fatiguing effect on his body if he overworked himself in this virtual world. The worst part is that even if he isn't wounded in the real world, taking an injury in the virtual world can still cause pain to his real body. Even the administrator had warned him about this. Shiki can't believe that he had gotten himself into another fight in a fucking game simulation. You have got to be FUCKING kidding me.

As Raygin put his hand on his zanpakutou, Shiki knew that it immediately signaled attack. Shiki, who was already in a meditative state and standing completely still, had already finished channeling his spiritual energy and was ready to counter any attack. As soon as Raygin lunged toward Shiki with his superior speed, Shiki immediately knew what kind of counter he would use. He had just fought the captain of squad 2, who outmatched him in speed by more than 3 times, so he had a perfect counter against fast opponents.

With his spiritual energy already prepared and channeled, Shiki immediately converted his reiatsu strength into spiritual pressure at an instant. After struggling hard against a strong vice captain like Kubi, Shiki had already prepared an algorithm against fast people. Cutback. Now, this might be kind of a cheap shot but that was exactly Shiki's fighting style. Underhanded. Being the asshole he is, Shiki wouldn't hesitate to use this cowardly method to attack his opponent. It has been a long and tiring day for Shiki so he wasn't going to spend the effort to dodge his attacks.



Right as Raygin chopped Shiki's neck with his forward momentum, he would find the cutback will leave bruise in Raygin's hand. With more than double Raygin's spiritual pressure, the impact from Shiki's spiritual pressure will even damage his arm as well. As he threw the kick straight into Shiki's back, his spiritual pressure will return the force and damage his leg as well, causing damage to his leg muscles and leaving a bruise against his foot.

The impact force from cutback would cause Raygin to lose a bit of balance from kicking, making standing on one foot slight awkward. Plus, the cutback damage would be enough to take Raygin by surprise and cause a slight delay. Taking this chance, Shiki immediately grabbed his kicking leg with a firm martial arts grip before he could move 15 feet away and immediately hammered his knife toward his leg with full strength, aiming to stab the tendon on his lower leg.

Shiki was so impatient and irritated that he was already aiming to cripple Raygin so that he can't use his annoying speed against him. What a fucking asshole Shiki was. It has been a while since Shiki has been this cruel to his opponents. Shiki was so disrespected by Raygin calling him "what's-your-face" that he wanted to make him pay for it. In his human life, Shiki was the Blood Reaper. Anyone who dared to disrespect him like that were killed in the most painful and gruesome way. Shiki had showed his merciless side to his opponent, showing that he wasn't just playing around.

"Nope, not bad not bad. That caught me off guard, friend. So, are you gonna give me your name? Or should I just refer to you as Mr. Brooding?””

Shiki's eyes widened as he just whipped out his leg with almost 3 times his strength. Not even a martial arts grip which required almost no strength at all could stop someone of Raygin's massive strength. It was all because his muscles grew weak after his death. The spiritual world seemed to be different than the real world in many ways. Even if his body was ripped, his physical strength was as weak as a child's. Shiki's devastating eyes just glared straight into Raygin's, "Blood Reaper..."

”So tell me, are you always this angry? Cus if you are don’t you know it’s bad for your health? You could pop a blood vessel and your eye would turn red then just…explode! There is also the problem people might not take you very seriously, or people just avoid you completely. Other than that increasing your spiritual pressure was a good move, but your too weak to attempt a simple stab like that. Seriously, grabbing my leg and lunging at my leg? You should have pulled me in to stab or used a stepping technique. Or Kido, Kido never hurts….wait it hurts the person hit by it. Either way, if I wasn’t playing around I could have gotten a few hits in on you, just so you know.”

"..." Shiki's stoic face began to turn into a horrifying smirk as Raygin started talking. Shiki didn't bother to responding to such words. Whether Shiki really pulled him forward or used a step technique didn't matter. This guy would've been faster and stronger than he was anyways. But when Shiki noticed he whipped out his leg, he whipped it out like an amateur. He had no knowledge of martial arts or even hand-to-hand combat. Shiki was a master of both martial arts and military weaponry. Even with senses and instinct of an average human, he can still read muscle tensions of his opponent.

Although he was rather loud and annoying of a vice captain, he was still someone more powerful than he was. Shiki had already accepted this the moment got into this fight. Shiki's mind has already been corrupted by his inner demonic personalities ever since Kubi's fight. He was getting darker and darker. Ever since he got his shikai, he has become arrogant. This hatred and pride will fill up his inner hollow and make him stronger but Shiki did not know that. Once his hollow consumed him, Shiki would despair. Only if someone would understand Shiki, they would pity him and try to save him.

Because of Raygin's damaged and weakened leg from cutback, it was now much easier to read Raygin's body since it would probably slow him down a bit. Plus, Shiki was used to reading all kinds of telegraphing. Even if he was only a human, he could still sense from muscle tension that Raygin was going to try to use shunpo, noticing that there was a glow in his hand with his cornea vision. Because Shiki had at least some energy sensory, he would be able to tell that this was kidou because he remembered how he got crushed by kyomei's fight.

He also took note that Kyomei was always trying to dodge his ranged and energy attacks but never tried to dodge his physical attacks. Thus, this means that cutback doesn't apply to ranged or non-physical attacks. This meant that Shiki would have to actually avoid this blue light. As Shiki read his opponent's body, Raygin seemed as if he was about to step forward. Shiki knew that shunpo only moved in a straight line which meant that he must be trying to appear in front of him.

Out of complete reflex, Shiki tried to move his body out of the way by turning it to the side as if his right shoulder was a pivot. While Raygin was using shunpo, with only senses of an average person, the world would be pretty blurred as he moved at a speed of 3500. This means that Raygin wouldn't be able to see had already moved slightly while he was in shunpo. However, the shunpo was fast and Shiki only had enough time to move his body slightly away so that the hand was aimed toward his shoulder instead of his chest.

This was when Shiki used his flash technique, Kanzaki Hohou #1: Sensa (Flash Assault), a technique that applied shunpo to his attacks and accelerated his body movement of by 10 times. Using this to accelerate his free hand, he immediately redirected Raygin's entire arm away from his shoulder by pushing against his upper arm. It didn't take much force to redirect his arm away since Shiki had used mechanical advantage from his mastered knowledge of martial arts, pushing his upper arm a few centimeters was enough to move his hand completely out of the way.

Furthermore, with his hand traveling at the speed of sound, both Shiki and Raygin wouldn't be able to see that Shiki moving his hand. The only reason why Shiki would be able to control this speed was because he had extremely good muscle control and coordination, trained by his martial arts for years. Before Raygin knew it, Shiki would be on the outside of his opponent's body. With his hand still accelerated by Sensa, he grabbed Raygin's upper arm with a martial arts grip and tugged him forward.

With one slightly crippled leg, Raygin would lose his balance as soon as Shiki pulled him forward. This caused the blast of blue energy to fire into the ground next to Shiki as Raygin fell forward. Since Shiki was on the left side of his body, there was no way Raygin would be able to use the zanpakutou in his right hand. Plus, he was falling forward at the same time. Flipping his dagger into forward grip, Shiki aimed to slice Raygin's ribs with his knife from the bottom-up so that Raygin would fall right into the dagger's blade as Shiki slashed upwards.

Because Shiki was on the outside of Raygin's body, Raygin wouldn't be able to defend this attack with either of his limbs. But now that he was out of balance, it would be quite difficult for him to shunpo away. The worst part was that Shiki was using Raygin's falling weight to his advantage with an upwards cut. It was not just the cutting efficiency of Shiki's knife combat abilities but also Raygin's entire body weight falling into the edge of the knife.

Even if Raygin's energy sensory and instinct were higher than Shikis, they weren't that high in terms of ability. Raygin's instincts were only still at the level slightly above an athlete, which was still a human's instinct. As for energy sensory, Shiki wasn't a kidou user so that wouldn't be too useful but for searching out other enemies within a half mile radius. Raygin's senses and instincts were still at human level and same with Shiki, so it was still pretty even in terms of sensory stats.

A psychotic smirk stretched across Shiki's face as he slashed his knife toward Raygin at twice the speed of an athlete while Raygin fell toward the knife at roughly the same speed due to the extremely fast pull. With only senses of an average human, the knife would be very close to his body by the time he noticed the blade coming towards him. Shiki's smirk became wider and more terrifying as the blade made contact with his body. However, right as Shiki's knife made contact with his clothes and pressed toward his body, Shiki's body was suddenly frozen by some kind of Bakudou.

The first thing that ran through Shiki's mind was... YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME...! Shiki had never been more pissed off. A paralysis technique? SON OF A BITCH. And second of all, he was frozen with the dumbest facial expression that you could possibly imagine. Since his smirk was so wide, it looked extremely retarded by the time he was paralyzed. Yeah, Shiki's reiatsu strength was so low that even his face and eyeballs were frozen.

However, this didn't stop Raygin from falling into the sharp edge of the knife at a fairly quick speed. The blade of the knife was already pressing into his skin by the time he launched himself straight into Shiki's body. Since the blade had made contact with his ribs, it would leave a small scratch in his body, nothing but a cut a few millimeters deep. With Raygin's high pain tolerance, he barely even notice the scratch. It was just so insignificant that it had absolutely no impact on him at all.

This just made Shiki even angrier. He was THIS close to cutting the tendons under his armpits. If Shiki could move a little faster, he would be able to deal more deadly injury. But, unfortunately for Shiki, that wasn't the case. But that was least of his problems. He was fucking paralyzed with Raygin's bodyweight pushing him off edge of the roof. What a cheap technique. Without the ability to move, Shiki would've just fell off the building and smash himself on the ground.

As Shiki fell through the air head first, he realized that he could move once again. Returning his retarded facial expression back to his stoic expression, Shiki immediately raised his hand out into the air and landed on the air ground with one hand, upside down. With slight knowledge of breakdancing and acrobatic martial arts, he held himself in a one-handed handstand on the air ground, in a cool freeze position. He rolled onto his back and performed a windmill on top of the air ground, using the momentum to kick back up to his feet.

"Oi! Buddy! If you can hear me, I wanna say congrats. I am gonna release against you. Come on, tell you what. Since I am telling you the name of my Zanpakuto, tell me your name alright.”

Shiki looked up at Raygin, who stood about a distance of about 20-30 feet above him but with enough horizontal distance that Shiki could see his whole body. Finally, his opponent was going to respect him as a worthy opponent and use his shikai against him. Shiki decided to let go of his small grudge and let his disrespect earlier slide. A vice captain releasing a zanpakutou on a mere 7th seat and properly asking for his opponent's name was enough respect for Shiki.

Shiki finally acknowledged Raygin and decided to give him his full name. However, under one condition, if Raygin would be able to remember it to the sharpest detail. Shiki responded to him, "Kanzaki, Shiki Kanzaki... Remember this name well because I only give out my name to those that I acknowledge. Consider this a privilege because most people who die by my hands never knew the name of the reaper who killed them."

It was a fact that "reaper" was the perfect nickname for Shiki. In Kanji, the word "Shi" meant "Death" and "Ki" meant "Spirit". Hence, Shiki's name would be literally translated as "Corpse Demon", a perfect name for a mass-murderer, assassin and terrorist. In his human life, Shiki was, in fact, one of the greatest terrorists of his time and era, comparable to the "Bane" character from the movie, The Dark Knight Rises. Shiki awaited to hear the name of Raygin's zanpakutou as reiatsu flared around him.

"Rip through the sky and cut the wind. Howl, Zeroshiki!”

Zeroshiki, huh...? Shiki thought was a slight smirk across his face as the name resembled his own. Shiki watched the weapon began to glow and change, the blade of his zanpakutou splitting into three sharp blades, turning into a shurikin at an instant. Shiki watched the destructive power of the shikai as the windows around him began to shatter. If just the sound of the shurikin had enough power to shatter glass, then Raygin's zanpakutou must revolve around raw power.

Shiki flipped his knife around his hand and caught it in a fillapino grip. A grin stretched across his face as he thought, It's time we show Zeroshiki what you are made of... Alice... His zanpakutou began to glow silver as a female voice responded back to Shiki, It's about time, Shiki... I was wondering when you would call upon my power again... But judging by your opponent's weapon, his advantage over us is range... But I still have one more technique up my sleeves, hehe~

"Overdrive, Alice..."

Just two words. As simple as that and Shiki's zanpakutou knife immediately began to change shape. His eyes glowing crimson red, Shiki flipped the glowing knife into the air as his entire outfit changed into his signature assassin outfit when he was the "Blood Reaper", a black shirt with a yin and yang symbol engraved on the back. As soon as the transformation was complete, Shiki would swipe his hand across the air and catch the newly transformed weapon, a black double-bladed knife made from stainless steel.

As Raygin fed Zeroshiki his reiatsu, Shiki began to speak to Alice in his mind, So what is this technique you have up your sleeve? Alice returned with a brief response, Firearm Overdrive. This allows you to turn your close range knife into a gun for long-range combat! Try it, it's legit!! Shiki gripped his shikai knife and immediately decided to use the technique before Raygin could throw his first attack, "Firearm Overdrive."

Suddenly, Shiki knife immediately turned into a blowback-operated, magazine-fed black handgun that uses .45 ACP caliber cartridges. Shiki flipped the magazine into the air and swiped his gun straight into the magazine, instantly catching the magazine as it slid perfectly into the gun. Now, we are talking. With a firearm instead of knife, Shiki was ready to step his game up, ready for hardcore assassination. Shiki shifted his eyes towards Raygin as he bounced Zeroshiki on his shoulder, holding the gun sideways like a gangster as he pointed it towards Raygin's direction.

Reading Raygin's muscle tensions, it seemed as if Raygin was going to throw that gigantic ninja star. Shiki then shifted his eyes toward the small wound that he caused with his zanpakutou knife. Right as Raygin was in mid-throwing, Shiki suddenly detonated the scratch on his body with perfect timing, creating a tiny explosion on his ribs with a blast radius of at least several inches. The force of the tiny explosion was generate enough force to jolt Raygin's body, causing the shurikin to be thrown off course. Plus, the effects would be much greater if he threw the shurikin with his damaged arm.

At nearly the same time, Shiki fired a bullet straight toward Raygin's chest, using the fact that he was caught off guard by the small explosion to launch a surprise attack with his gun. The bullet would travel at a speed of 800, which was already more than twice the speed of Raygin's body movement. Furthermore, with his instincts and senses only at the level of a human, Raygin would have a difficult time noticing the bullet while the small explosion would throw him into confusion. As for the shurikin, it would've flew in some random direction, completely miss Shiki and hit the ground, leaving a small crater.

Shiki let out a psychotic crackle as he watch Raygin lose air ground, a smirk of pure evil stretched across his face as wickedness filled his eyes. The demonic personality inside of him began to surface as Shiki programmed the bullet that flew over Raygin's head to detonate. Just like how Raygin can telekinetically control his shurikin, Shiki can control when his bullets explode and each bullet in shikai mode had the explosive power of a grenade, which can cause severe damage to an opponent who was too close.

Suddenly, the explosive blast right above Raygin's face would launch Raygin straight into the ground instead of just falling straight into the ground. That was a good thing for Raygin because Shiki was skilled enough to shoot falling targets in midair. Shiki wouldn't hesitate to shoot someone falling in midair. However, it would be difficult to dissipate all of the force of impact because Raygin would be slamming into the ground at full force, inflicting even more damage on him along with the damage from the explosive bullet.

As he slammed into the ground, he instantly fired a gigantic blast of blue fire. As soon as Shiki saw the immense light, he could tell that Raygin was using another kidou since he has definitely seen that light before. In fact, he was surprised that he was still alive. A normal human would've instantly died from a grenade explosion to the face. Shiki immediately used shunpo to get out of the way, stepping upwards toward the sky to get out of range and standing way above the buildings around him. Shiki's shunpo moved at the speed of sound so he would have plenty of time to wait for the distracting blue light to end.

While Raygin was buying himself some time, Shiki utilized this time to meditate and stand still, returning his reiatsu strength back to normal. Using his self-hypnosis, it could completely concentrate on that and convert his enhanced spiritual pressure back to reiatsu strength. By this time, Raygin had just climbed onto the top of the building with air ground. Shiki took a good look at his HP bar. Shiki was still at maximum health while his opponent didn't have much left. Taking cutback damage in his limbs, taking an explosive to his ribs and lungs, taking an explosive to the head and slamming in to the ground was enough to take out huge chucks of HP.



He watched Raygin throw his shurikin into the alleyway with his extremely damaged body. Shiki deduced that if he didn't see the shurikin come out from one side, then the shurikin must came out the back side of the alleyway, hiding behind the buildings as a form of sneak attack. Then he noticed that Raygin had took his zanpakutou sheath and had decided to rush in toward Shiki. If Raygin was deciding to use a head-on attack, it didn't take much analysis to predict that the shurikin would come from behind as a two way attack.

But in order for the shurikin to follow that kind of crazy trajectory, it must mean that Raygin had some kind of control over the shurikin. Besides, who the fuck just throws away their weapon like that. The shurikin HAD to be telekinetically controlled. Since Raygin was horribly injured, it would be harder for him to rush in toward Shiki with full speed, so Shiki had enough time to check the Shurikin with his cornea vision. Shiki turned his body slightly and took a quick glance behind him to confirm that the shurikin was coming from behind.

At this time, both the shurikin and Raygin were at least 20 feet away from Shiki. This was a bad situation. If he tried to focus on one attack, he would be beaten by another. Besides, the shurikin was already approaching 500 speed by this time. Shiki would have no time to dodge the shurikin without using another step technique. Suddenly, Shiki became extremely calm, his angelic personality balancing out the demon inside him. Yin and Yang. Shiki's mind was now at peace. Shiki smiled calmly, "Kanzaki Hohou #4: Shinsoku..."

As the name "Shinsoku" (lit. God Speed) suggests, it applied shunpo movement to Shiki's entire body for a period of time, a technique magnified his normal movement by 10 folds. With every muscle twitch accelerated to the speed of sound, Shiki instantly shifted his eyes back toward Raygin and quickly focused on his wounds on his head and upper body from the explosive bullet. Suddenly, all those wounds on his body turned into large-scale explosives. Not only would this disrupt his concentration, but severely damage him further.

As soon as the wounds were detonated, Shiki kicked off the air ground at the same exact time, performing a quick back flip straight over the shurikin with immense height. Since the giant explosive on Raygin took him by surprise, he would no longer have full control over the flight of the shurikin. As Shiki was upside-down in the air, he utilized his amazing muscle control and coordination to fire a bullet down at the shurikin. Shiki was so skilled with a gun and his body control was further enhanced by his self-hypnosis that he would be able to perform this entire thing with his eyes closed.

Since the reiatsu strength of the bullet was weaker than the shurikin by 100 points and shurikin's strength was overwhelming powerful, the shurikin would easily overpower the explosive bullet. However, the explosive force of the bullet will slightly alter its trajectory. Shiki was so skilled with explosives and bullet ricochet that he was able to alter the shurikin's trajectory in the direction of Raygin, who was still dealing with a large-scale explosion from his wounds.

Now, the shurikin would be heading toward Raygin at more than 500 speed and at the strength of 1200, enough to shatter all his bones upon contact.
