Kuroi decided that he and Marcelius had had enough banter. Even in the middle of Soul Society, he thought that a good opportunity had presented itself. Save for dead Hollows, they were alone. There were no onlookers. No passersby would eavesdrop or observe. This meant that, given Kuroi was recruiting this one to his cause, he would have an opportunity to feel Marcelius out. It would have been foolish of Kuroi not to do any sort of investigation. In prior recruiting, Kuroi had investigated and learned of the Arrancar's power beforehand, then pursued each one based on what he knew. The reason that he had chosen Marcelius in the first place was because this one seemed to be peaceful, and seemed to hold at least a little sagacity. He would be useful in future.
Still, what good was one who had no power? Kuroi was intent on discovering for himself what kind of strength might be stored up within Marcelius. Kuroi looked at Marcelius, his shadow still looming over the soon to be Fraccion member. "The time for discussion has elapsed," Kuroi said, taking charge of the situation fully and completely. "Now, if you are to be useful to what Hueco Mundo must become, we must examine first your strength." Kuroi did not even draw forth his Zanpakuto, despite having challenged Marcelius. Kuroi was capable and confident. There were few among the Arrancar that could fight him even when he did not hold a weapon. Kuroi was the ultimate master of close quarters combat. Within Las Noches, he had no equals in terms of close combat skill.
Kuroi held up his left hand, and kept his right hand in his pocket. He maintained himself standing upright, but otherwise took no stance or battle form. Thus far, he recognized this one to be some sort of Numero, in other words of exceedingly low rank. Regardless of wisdom, low rank indicated that there was a poer which was not had by Marcelius which Kuroi did indeed have. A Numero could never cause great detriment to the likes of an Espada. This was where Kuroi's confidence stemmed from, and this was why he was willing to fight without his sword. "Come," Kuroi instructed. "Show me your strength in combat." He challenged Marcelius and waited for the latter to attack. It was going to be very shocking to Marcelius, to say the least.
